POLICE are hunting a knife-wielding thug who tried to rob a takeaway delivery driver in Renfrewshire.

An investigation has been taking place into the incident, which happened in Magdalen Way, Paisley, at around 6.30pm on Thursday.

The delivery driver was inside a parked black Ford Focus when the suspect leant in the window and threatened the victim with a knife.

However, the crook's demands for money were unsuccessful and he fled the scene empty-handed.

The suspect is described as white, slim, sunken around the eyes, and speaks with a local accent. He may also have some facial hair.

At the time, he was wearing a navy blue jacket with the hood up and dark coloured trousers.

Detective Constable James Campbell, of Paisley CID, said: "Thankfully no-one was injured as a result of this but it was a frightening experience for a man who was simply doing his job.

"I'm appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or has any relevant information to contact us."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 2738 of October 14.
