A CRACKDOWN on housebreakings in Renfrewshire has been launched this month.
As part of Police Scotland's #AfterDark campaign, local officers have been highlighting proactive steps that can be taken by residents to prevent their homes being targeted by thieves.
Inspector Laura Hamill, of Renfrewshire’s community policing team, said: "This campaign is about raising awareness in relation to the safety of your property during hours of darkness.
"My team have been going out into local areas that have had housebreakings recently to provide general advice and leaflet drops on how to make your home appear occupied, as well as offering quick safety surveys of properties."
Police are reminding residents to make sure they secure the windows and secondary doors in their homes, as well as their front doors.
Residents are advised to secure sheds and garages, fit outside security lighting and consider leaving a radio or audio device on when not at home.
If possible, an approved monitored alarm system is recommended for home security, however an audible only alarm is still an effective visual deterrent.
