RESIDENTS at a Renfrew care home were all smiles as they enjoyed a special visit from some furry friends.

A pair of alpacas, named Fergus and Tosh, proved popular at Craigielea Care Home, where they were happy to be petted and fed carrot sticks.

The Gazette:

The visit was part of the care home’s pet therapy programme, designed to encourage residents to stay active and happy.

Sheila Inshaw, service manager at Craigielea Care Home, said: “Community activities like this can really help boost morale – for residents and our colleagues alike – so it was lovely to welcome the alpacas for a safe visit, especially after months of planning by our activities co-ordinator.

“We look forward to organising more activities in the home.”

Activities co-ordinator Lindsay McKechnie added: “Events like this make such a difference for our residents, especially after almost two years of keeping them socially distanced and having to cancel outside activities due to the pandemic.”
