Commuters to Glasgow have been warned of unprecedented disruption to traffic as several of the city's main roads close from TOMORROW as the COP26 summit draws closer.
The Clydeside Expressway will shut for three weeks starting from 9pm on Saturday, October 23 and will reopen on Monday, November 15.
The closure is expected to affect the area between the Partick interchange and Anderston.
Other areas affected will include Finnieston, Anderston and Partick plus the city centre and M8.
Here is your complete guide for road closure dates in Glasgow during COP26:
- Congress Road (Closed from 6am October 10 until November 17 at 6am)
- Congress Way, Finnieston Quay, Tunnel Street, Stobcross Road (section parallel to A814) and Castlebank Street (Closed from 9pm October 24 until November 21 at 6am)
- Clyde Arc and Lancefield Quay - west of Elliot Street (Closed from 9pm October 23 until November 15 at 6am)
- Finnieston Street – Houldsworth Street to Lancefield Quay (Closed from 9pm October 24 until November 15 at 6am) Local access southbound will be maintained until October 28.
- Clydeside Expressway - Partick interchange to Anderston (Jnct 19) (Closed from 9pm October 24 until November 15 at 6am)
- Minerva Street - West Greenhill Place (Closed from 6am October 28 until November 13 at 6am) Local access to private car parks will be maintained.
Alternatives routes will be in place throughout the global summit on Great Western Road, Byres Road, Clyde Tunnel and Paisley Road West.
The M8 and the M74 are the most likely motorways to be affected by closures and restrictions.
The main carriageway of the M74 on the approach to, and through, the M8 Braids section, will be extremely busy where additional weaving is predicted as more traffic heads towards the Clyde Tunnel, westbound.
Increased queueing and delays are expected on the M8 Junction 25 westbound off-ramp (Clyde Tunnel), as more traffic heads towards the tunnel northbound and from the tunnel southbound. This is a key access road to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
Events
On Monday, November 1, there will be additional road closures around Argyle Street which is one of the main diversion routes, because of a COP26 event. This will increase congestion and put additional strain on the road network.
Friday, November 5, and Saturday, November 6, are also expected to be exceptionally busy, due to planned climate change related marches going from Kelvingrove Park into the city centre and Glasgow Green.
