A WARNING has been issued by police about rogue traders after an elderly Renfrew couple were scammed out of £400.

On the morning of Wednesday, November 3, a group of five fraudsters posing as gardeners visited the home of the 85-year-old woman and 88-year-old man.

The couple had previously been contacted online by one of the scammers, who claimed they could carry out the gardening work that the elderly man had advertised in an online post.

However, after carrying out a small amount of gardening work, a man of stocky build entered the couple's property and demanded £400 for the work.

The fraudsters then left the area claiming they needed to purchase more gardening materials, but failed to return to finish the job.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and Renfrewshire residents are now being urged by police to remain alert to the risk of rogue traders.

Anyone who is concerned they are being targeted by bogus callers is advised to contact officers on 101.
