JOHNSTONE was full of Christmas cheer at the weekend with festive characters making appearances in the town centre.

Youngsters were able to meet a giant Santa Claus, cool snowmen and cheeky elves who visited the town on Saturday to entertain shoppers.

The characters, provided by arts company Bridgeman Arts, were handing out tokens that can be exchanged in participating local businesses for special offers or discounts, giving residents a chance to sample the best local food or get a head start on their Christmas shopping.

Johnstone Sound radio station was providing the soundtrack for the day and there was also carnival rides on offer for thrill seekers.

The festive friends will now be heading to Renfrew one last time tomorrow, between noon and 4pm, to give out more tokens.
