A MAN has been charged with multiple offences after he was reportedly seen armed with an axe in a Renfrew street.
Officers stopped the 21-year-old suspect in York Way at around 12.20am this morning following a tip-off from a member of the public.
The man is said to have become violent towards police when they tried to arrest him.
An officer was reportedly headbutted in the face before the suspect was eventually taken into custody.
He was charged with police assault, possession of an offensive weapon, resisting arrest and breach of the peace.
Police said the injured officer was taken to hospital but released a short time later after a medical assessment.
The suspect is due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court today.
