A RETAIL giant has introduced a new way for its staff and customers to recycle litter at a Renfrewshire mall.

A reverse vending machine has been installed in Marks & Spencer's foodhall at Braehead, in Renfrew, as part of a new trial.

The machine is capable of handling the recycling of glass, plastic bottles and cans by crushing and sorting each material after scanning the item's barcode.

The Gazette:

David Bates, regional manager at Marks & Spencer Scotland West, said: "We are proud to trial the reverse vending machine at M&S Braehead and are enjoying seeing how well the customers are responding to it so far.

"Ahead of the launch of the deposit return scheme in August 2023, it’s great to be trialling a vending machine capable of handling and recycling glass – a real first.

"As we move into 2022, M&S is committed to their Plan A Reset mission and look forward to testing initiatives like this across Scotland in the months to follow."
