MEMBERS of a Slimming World class in Renfrewshire have been thanked for donating goods to three worthy causes this Christmas.

Johnstone-based slimming consultant Jennifer McDade asked her Saturday morning class to donate children’s pyjamas for an appeal organised by Renfrewshire Provost Lorraine Cameron.

The group also decided to support Susan Temple, who works at Johnstone train station’s ticket office and is collecting toiletries for Women’s Aid and the Turning Point health and social care charity.

As well as providing more than 50 pairs of pyjamas, the class donated around 60 bags of hygiene essentials, including toothpaste, shower gel and sanitary products.

Jennifer told The Gazette: “I think charities are really struggling more than ever now and it’s nice to be able to give back.

“I asked all the members of my Saturday morning class to bring in one or two things, as that makes it much easier to collect a large amount of donations.

“The community we have built in the Johnstone Saturday morning group has made me so proud. First and foremost, we are here to help people lose weight but creating a community that helps others is all part of Slimming World’s ethos.”

Earlier this month, Jennifer also managed to donate more than £500 worth of toys to Families First Johnstone, which provides festive packages to vulnerable local residents, after raffling her grandson’s unused bicycle.

Jennifer said: “I would like to thank my Slimming World members and my family and friends, as all of them have supported all the things I have done.

“I’d also like to thank Provost Cameron and Susan for their continuous hard work.”

Provost Cameron, who along with Susan recently visited the Saturday morning class in Johnstone’s Houstoun Square to collect their donations, said she has been overwhelmed by the support for her pyjama appeal.

She added: “The members of Slimming World in Johnstone have been so generous with their donations and their kindness means that children in Renfrewshire who would have otherwise gone without will be wearing new pyjamas to welcome Santa.

“Jen and her members are always so giving at this time of the year and I want to thank them for their efforts.”
