A new customer lounge area has opened at Motherwell train station as part of a large scale redevelopment project.

The former waiting area between platforms two and three at the station has now been transformed into a bright and welcoming room.

With padded benches, new flooring and softer lighting ScoRail describe the new lounge as a ‘comfortable place to catch a train.’

The improved space is part of a £14.5m project to redevelop the station and create a new transport interchange in Motherwell.

Work is currently underway to extend the stations forecourt and internal concourse area.

The next few weeks will see the improvement of pedestrian and cycle access to the station as well as more space created for buses and taxis.

John MacDonald, ScotRail Senior Project Manager, said: “Creating a welcoming station is key to making rail more attractive and improving overall customer experiences.

"The new facilities at the station will set the tone for their journey and I am delighted that this stage is complete.

"Combined with the work to improve transport integration outside the station, once complete, this project will create a gateway to Glasgow and beyond.”
