A MAN has been charged with intent to commit theft after he fell from scaffolding at Paisley Museum and Art Galleries.

Emergency services rushed to the town's High Street at around 7.30pm on Friday after being alerted by the historic building's security team.

A 47-year-old man was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital, also in Paisley.

The Gazette:

Police have said the man was not seriously injured but, after further enquiries were carried out by officers, he was later charged with being in the curtilage of an area with intent to commit theft.

A report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Paisley Museum is undergoing a £42million transformation, with the refurbished building due to open next year.

It is expected to attract 125,000 visits a year – four-times its pre-overhaul numbers – and generate a £79m economic boost for the area over 30 years.
