ST MIRREN legend Tony Fitzpatrick is the special guest on a Johnstone man’s latest YouTube talk show.

Chit Chat with Jed and Co, hosted by Jed McCabe, was launched in 2020 and has been gaining a growing army of viewers ever since.

For his latest show, Jed met with Saints chief executive Tony to discuss his life in and out of football.

Tony tells how his first training session with St Mirren at the age of 12 kick-started a love affair with the Buddies that continues to this day.

He also chats about becoming the Paisley club’s youngest ever captain during the days when legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge, as well as his own two spells in the Saints hotseat, which included bringing high-profile players such as former Barcelona skipper Victor Munoz to Scottish football.

And there is a poignant discussion about the heartbreaking loss of his six-year-old son Tony junior to acute myeloid leukaemia back in 1983.

More than 30 years later, Tony released a children’s book – The Promise, Together Again – that deals with big issues such as grief and bullying in a simple but charming way that is easily digestible for youngsters.

Jed told The Gazette: “To get Tony on the show was a real honour and I am positive the audience will be gripped by his amazing story.

“It’s not to be missed.”

Tony, who will retire as St Mirren’s chief executive at the end of March, added: “It was a real pleasure to be on Chit Chat with Jed and Co and to speak openly about my life story.

“I hope the audience enjoy it.”
