Renfrewshire has been included in a top 10 list of Scotland's most crime-ridden areas.

Analysis of Scottish Government data covering May 2020 until March last year shows there were 468 crimes per 10,000 people in the local area.

That places Renfrewshire 10th highest out of all 32 council areas across Scotland.

The most common crimes reported locally involved dishonesty, with a total of 2,667 incidents during that period.

A study by A-Plan Insurance shows Dundee is Scotland's 'crime capital,' with 688 incidents reported per 10,000 residents.

The second highest rate was recorded in Glasgow (682 crimes per 10,000 people), followed by West Dunbartonshire (632 crimes per 10,000 residents).

A spokesperson for A-Plan Insurance said: “Protecting ourselves from crime is an essential part of everyday life and this study very interestingly shows that the type of crime committed across the country varies by region.

"Fraud is reported massively more than any other crime, perhaps due to the pandemic and movement to online crime.

"The research also highlights that no area is free from crime and, therefore, we need to remain vigilant in all parts of our lives, whether we’re at home, out and about or online.”
