Road Policing Officers have been out and about as part of the National Seatbelt Campaign in partnership with staff from Road Safety Scotland, engaging with members of the public in West Dunbartonshire.
This engagement focused on seatbelts as well as ensuring that child seats were properly fitted and secured within vehicles.
Out of 18 child car seats were checked, staff and officers found 10 being properly fitted, however 4 needed major adjustments and 4 needed minor adjustments according to Police Scotland, highlighting the importance of continued education and awareness of fitting these to the manufacturer’s specifications.
Police Scotland online statement said: "Seatbelts save lives, and although education and awareness events assist greatly in getting this message across, enforcement is always available with potential punishments being a Fixed Penalty Notice fine for £100 for not wearing a seatbelt and if a child is not secured appropriately, depending on circumstances, the driver could be charged with dangerous carriage of a passenger and given 3 penalty points and a £100 fine."
