Renfrew boss Jimmy Quigley has revealed that hotshots Scott Morton and Ciaran Diver are keen to stay at the club.

The duo scored 54 goals between them last season, with Morton netting 29 and Diver getting 25.

Morton rounded off Renfrew’s season with four goals in the win at Ashfield that saw him edge ahead of his team-mate in the scoring charts.

Quigley has started talks with most of his squad after their 2021/22 campaign came to an end, with a fifth-place finish in Conference B meaning Division One football looks likely next season.

And he is keen to get his business done as early as possible.

Quigley told Gazette Sport: “I’ve spoken to near enough everybody and they all want to stay.

“I’ve got five or six left to talk to but a couple have signed two-year deals, so they are committing their long-term future to us.

“If we can get our business done early with a couple of players we’ve identified, then we won’t be chasing our tail when we come back in.

“Keeping the nucleus of the squad is important because we’ve shown we can challenge and competition for places this season has been good, so hopefully it bodes well for next year.

“Scott Morton and Ciaran Diver have more than 50 goals between them this season and both have intimated they don’t want to go anywhere else. Scott is a local boy and wants to get 100 goals for the club. He is on 89 just now.

“There is a lot of experience in the team and all the local boys want to stay, which is what we’re trying to build on, so fingers crossed we are going in the right direction.”
