PUPILS at an Erskine school went on the march to raise thousands of pounds for those suffering as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Children from all year groups at Barsail Primary have visited a number of local sites, including nearby Lamont Farm, as part of a series of sponsored walks.
So far, the school has coined in nearly £3,000 to boost Unicef’s efforts to help those affected by the Ukraine conflict, with more donations still to be collected.
Emma Mavers, Barsail Primary’s headteacher, told The Gazette: “The primary one children loved learning about Lamont Farm and seeing the animals.
“Our primary six and seven pupils walked almost nine miles over the Erskine Bridge and back, accompanied by community police officers.
“We had children who went to Erskine Arts, in Erskine Sports Centre, and were involved in using technology and music, which was another fantastic opportunity on our doorstep.
“Some of our primary five pupils made a little patch of plants in the Ukrainian colours at the Erskine Community Garden.”
Other locations visited by pupils included Inchinnan Park, the play area at the new Cala Homes development in Gilchrist Gardens and the Church of the Nazarene, where the children were given hot chocolate.
Mrs Mavers added: “We had so many lovely opportunities for the children as well as being able to raise money for a very good cause.”
