A WARNING has been issued about rogue traders after an elderly Johnstone woman was scammed out of thousands of pounds.
The victim, who lives in Peockland Gardens, was approached by a workman on Monday, March 28.
He quoted a three-figure sum to carry out a job and over the next two days, the man completed this work.
However, he also carried out a number of other tasks which had not been agreed on before demanding a higher sum of money.
Police are following a positive line of enquiry but are asking for anyone with information, or any further victims in the area, to come forward.
Detective Constable Gordon Hunt said: "This was a particularly distressing incident for the victim, who was forced to pay over five times the agreed amount for work she did not require.
"If you have information which could assist our investigation, or you yourself believe you’ve been a victim of this same workman, please call police on 101, quoting incident 1139 of April 4."
