BUSINESSES are being invited to set up a stall at a new summer event coming to Renfrew.

The Renfrewshire Food and Drink Festival, in Robertson Park, will feature cooking demonstrations, a craft market and entertainment for all the family.

Hosted by SHS Events, it aims to provide a platform for local food, drink and craft businesses, both established and new, to show what they have to offer.

Councillor John Shaw, who represents Renfrew North and Braehead, said he hopes the event – which takes place on Saturday, June 25, and Sunday, June 26 – will help to boost community spirit in the local area.

He told The Gazette: “When I first worked with SHS Events to stage the Renfrew Market at Robertson Park, it was about bringing people back there with something a bit different.

“This proved successful but I was quite often asked about a more specialised food market or festival.

“With the operator’s experience with the Lomond Shores Food Festival, it was a no brainer that we go for it when they produced the proposal for the summer festival and it fitted in nicely with the gala day and pipe band competition being held in Renfrew this summer.”

Visitors will be able to browse through more than 60 stalls operated by a diverse range of food and drink producers and suppliers, as well as listen to live music from local performers.

Experts will provide tips as they stage demonstrations on everything from cookery to cocktail-making.

Councillor Shaw added: “I’m hoping to see a diverse range of offerings over the two days, with lots of variety and something for everyone – from our youngest to our oldest residents.

“It will be an opportunity for everyone to have a great weekend, hopefully in the sun.

“I would say to any business thinking about getting involved that this is a great opportunity to be in at the start of something I hope will run for years.

“The event is in a great location and has generated huge interest in the town already.

“If you have something special to offer, then just go for it. You will not be disappointed.”
