A WOMAN has been charged with serious assault following a disturbance in Johnstone.

The 35-year-old suspect was arrested after police were called to the common close of a Thorn Brae property shortly before 4pm on Thursday.

On arrival, officers found a man covered in blood and he was then taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital, in Paisley.

Police, who have said the 49-year-old man's injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, wouldn't confirm the type of weapon used during the alleged incident but confirmed it was not a blade.

It is understood the suspect and injured man are known to each other.

A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
