ANOTHER life has been lost to Covid-19 in Renfrewshire, latest figures show.

Data released by National Records of Scotland, covering the week ending May 8, reveals the total number of fatalities in the area since the pandemic began more than two years ago has risen to 677.

A total of 29 out of the 32 council areas across Scotland had at least one Covid death last week.

Glasgow was worst hit, with nine deaths, followed by Edinburgh, where eight lives were lost.

Only Inverclyde, the Orkney Islands and West Lothian avoided any Covid deaths.

The figures include all fatalities registered where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate and, as this includes suspected or probable cases, it differs from the lab-confirmed coronavirus deaths announced daily by the Scottish Government.

Across Scotland as a whole, the death toll increased by 85 in the latest weekly figures, pushing it up to 14,642.
