AN ABBA tribute act proved to be a smash hit with children at a Bishopton school as they enjoyed a special concert.

Pupils at Dargavel Primary were treated to a live performance by one of the UK’s leading tributes to the Swedish supergroup, thanks to housebuilder Robertson Homes.

Members of Voyage played the warm-up lunchtime concert at the school ahead of their upcoming gig on Saturday, June 18, as part of the Bishopton Day celebrations.

Robertson Homes is sponsoring the band’s appearance at the event, which will feature classic songs such as Mamma Mia and Dancing Queen.

Julie Henderson, sales manager at Robertson Homes, told The Gazette: “It was amazing to see the whole school come together and really enjoy the live music.

“I couldn’t believe how many of the children knew the words and were singing and dancing the whole way through.

“There was even a ‘best dancer’ award for the teachers, voted for by the children.”

Gerry Carlton, headteacher at Dargavel Primary, added: “Thank you to Robertson Homes for organising this event for us.

“The concert was fantastic, the children had a ball and the members of Voyage were really lovely.”

Kerry Burley, who performed as Anni-Frid at the event, said: “It was a fantastic day and the kids absolutely loved it.

“What amazed me was that many of the kids – especially the primary six and seven pupils – knew the words to the songs, as you tend to think of ABBA being more well known amongst older people.

“We are really looking forward to performing at Bishopton Day, as these types of festivals always have a great atmosphere and the music of ABBA is accessible to everybody.”

Following the concert, Voyage made the short trip to Robertson’s Dargavel Village development and were treated to a private tour of the show home by sales consultant Linda Cockburn.

Robertson is constructing a range of 129 three, four, five and six-bedroom homes at Dargavel Village and has recently released 21 luxury two-bedroom apartments for sale.

Julie said: “There is a lovely new community being created in this part of Bishopton and we can’t wait to sponsor Voyage for their main stage appearance at Bishopton Day.

“If this school concert is anything to go by, everybody is in for a fantastic time.”
