A MAN has been charged after a car ploughed into a vacant building in Kilbarchan.

The incident took place in Steeple Street at around 7.30pm on Monday.

Police said the 49-year-old driver was not injured during the crash.

Images shared on social media show the car inside the building, covered in debris.

It is understood the crash caused significant damage at the site, which has been lying derelict for a number of years.

A police spokesperson said: “Around 7.30pm on Monday, police were called to Steeple Street, Kilbarchan, following a report of a road crash where a vehicle had collided with a building.

“The building was made safe and will be fully assessed by council engineers.

“The 49-year-old male driver will be the subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: “We were alerted at 7.32pm on Monday, June 20, to reports of a collision at a building at Steeple Street, Kilbarchan.

“Operations Control mobilised six fire appliances and specialist resources to a collision involving one vehicle and a derelict property.

“One casualty was in the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service and crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
