MEMBERS of Kilbarchan Pipe Band have continued their march to success by securing a third major competition win in a row.

Led by Pipe Major Brian Knight, they landed first place in the 4B category at the European Pipe Band Championships at Bught Park, Inverness, on Saturday, June 25.

They also won Best Drum Corps, led by Robert Will, for the second time this season.

It follows on from a first place finish in the 4B category at the United Kingdom Pipe Band Championships, held in Northern Ireland, earlier this month and their win in the same category at the 2022 British Pipe Band Championships in May.

Michael Kerr, pipe corporal and secretary of the pipe band, said members are thrilled by their success so far this season.

He added: “To be crowned British, then UK and then European champions is absolutely fantastic for us, especially in our 20th anniversary year since the band reformed.

“There were a lot of good performances from the other bands and the conditions on the day were quite challenging because it was very sunny but very windy, which makes it difficult to tune bagpipes.

“We managed to get it done pretty well and the four judges scored us first, first, first and a second, so it was a really strong win for us.”

Michael said the key to the band’s success is the dedication shown by members, who continued to practice during Covid lockdowns through Zoom and then in-person as soon as the restrictions were lifted.

They are now looking ahead to the Scottish Pipe Band Championships at the end of July and the World Pipe Band Championships in August.

The band is also running a summer school, which is open to anyone who is keen to learn the drums or pipes.
