DOZENS of jobs are being created at the Rolls-Royce base in Inchinnan...two years after the company axed half of the workforce there.

The aerospace giant has identified the site as the location for a new design and stress engineering centre, creating roles for 40 engineers who will be hired from the local area.

A Rolls-Royce spokesperson said the company planned to use the available office space at the Inchinnan facility to locate the new recruits.

They told The Gazette: "We have chosen this site as we believe there is a talent pool of engineers in the region with the capability and skillset to meet our requirements.

"Targeted recruitment for these roles will start by the end of August and we expect our new employees to join the business by the end of the year.

"This programme of activity does not affect the existing businesses and employees at the Inchinnan site."

In 2020, the company halved its 1,400 workforce at the base as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, with the plant's maintenance, repair and operations axed completely because of falling demand from airlines for their engines.

Last year, The Gazette told of how most of the 700 Renfrewshire Rolls-Royce workers made redundant were still looking for work.

Workers' union Unite said only 12 per cent of the 174 who responded to their survey had found work of equal skill to that undertaken at Rolls-Royce.
