STAFF at a Renfrewshire-based fashion chain face an uncertain future after the firm plunged into administration for a second time.

M&Co, which has stores in Johnstone and Paisley, currently employs more than 1,900 workers with 170 shops across the UK.

Teneo confirmed it had been brought in as administrators on Friday by the retailer, which has its headquarters in Inchinnan.

The financial advisory firm said no immediate redundancies had been made and M&Co would continue to trade while a potential sale of the business was explored.

Gavin Park, one of the joint administrators, said "Like many retailers, the company has experienced a sharp rise in its input costs, which has coincided with a decline in consumer confidence leading to trading challenges.

"Despite a very loyal customer base, particularly in local markets, and a well-recognised brand, the current economic outlook has placed increasing pressure on the company's cash position."

M&Co previously collapsed in 2020 but assets were immediately bought back by the family that built it up.

However, the firm was forced to close dozens of stores and make hundreds of staff redundant as part of a major restructuring.
