A group of students have put their painting skills to good use at a new bereavement hub in Renfrewshire.

Staff at Accord Hospice, in Paisley, recently asked for help to decorate the facility in the town's Causeyside Street.

The hospice's appeal was shared on social media and seen by Derek Smillie, construction curriculum quality leader at West College Scotland.

He approached lecturers and students from the college's painting and decorating department, who were happy to help with the project.

After assessing the scope of works and materials required, the team from West College Scotland have now transformed the premises.

Accord Hospice kindly supported in the costs for all materials and kept the students fed and watered by providing lunch for the workers.

Those who took part in the project included students James Thomson, Kerry Smith, Kevin Garscadden, Patricia Innes, Ian Risk and Lee Anderson, along with lecturers Allan Keenan and Gary Hunter.

Derek said: "It was a pleasure to assist this worthwhile local charity and in turn, give our Pre-Apprenticeship learners on the job training.

"The learners did a fabulous, professional job, supported by our lecturing staff. The learners gained valuable experience for their portfolio."

A spokesperson for Accord Hospice added: "We are absolutely delighted with our new look premises for the Renfrewshire Bereavement Network, a place you can come to if you are experiencing loss or dealing with grief following the death of someone close to you, you can get support from our network.

"Creating a warm and welcoming place was something we wanted to achieve, with many thanks to the students from West College Scotland for their professional job.

"Thanks to everyone for the support of the hospice and the Renfrewshire Bereavement Network."
