A PUBLIC meeting is set to take place tomorrow to discuss asylum seekers being housed at an Erskine hotel.

Up to 174 refugees are being placed at the Muthu Glasgow River Hotel as part of a settlement programme managed by the Mears Group on behalf of the Home Office.

Counter-demonstrations have been staged in response to the presence of Patriotic Alternative (PA), which has staged Sunday protests at the site in recent weeks.

PA has been accused of latching on to the "genuine anxieties" of local residents who have expressed concerns about a lack of consultation and the potential impact the new arrivals could have on services such as health.

A public meeting is now set to take place at Bargarran Community Centre, in Erskine, this Saturday, starting at 1pm.

A flyer for the event states: "With the rise in tension in Erskine, local groups are inviting people in our community to discuss some of the divisions following debates about asylum seekers located at the Muthu River Hotel."

It is understood that speakers will include Erskine residents, an immigration lawyer and a faith leader.
