Petrolheads in Renfrewshire are being invited to mark the 60th anniversary of the production of the first Hillman Imp car.

The special event will see an assembly of vintage cars produced by Linwood's old car factory on display.

Now home to the St James Business Centre, the site opened in 1963 as a Rootes plant and was later taken over by Chrysler before being sold to Peugeot Talbot.

The Rootes plant was famous for producing the Hillman Imp - a revolutionary small car which went into production when the factory opened.

Later on, it produced the Hillman Avenger - which was later badged as Chrysler and eventually Talbot - from 1970, and the Imp's successor, the Sunbeam.

The anniversary event will take place near the old car factory's main office block in Linwood Road, Paisley, on Tuesday, May 2, from 10am to 1pm.

A spokesperson for the event said: "We are looking for ex-factory workers, their families, garage staff, mechanics, salesmen, parts suppliers, supporting industries, etc to come along and provide memories, stories or display any memorabilia associated with the factory and the cars."
