MEMBERS of a youth group based in Renfrewshire are encouraging local people to share their memories of centenary events held by the Boys' Brigade.

The Paisley and District Battalion, which is marking the organisation's 140th anniversary this year, are keen to hear from former members who took part in centenary celebrations back in 1983.

Members from the group, such as President Raymond Shaw, were instrumental in the success of the Centenary Salute at Ibrox Park.

Local member Andrew Hosie also led the administration at the Centenary Camp, while Reverend Sandy McDonald - David Tennant's father - conducted The National Centenary Thanksgiving Service.

Other local celebrations that took place during the centenary year included an Anchor Boys Day event, in Erskine, a centenary show in Paisley Town Hall, and two Fiddler’s Rally concerts.

The Paisley and District Battalion is now keen to hear from former members who took part in these events to help preserve the organisation's history.

A spokesperson for the youth group said: "It is important to record the memories of people who are still around.

"One member recalled the reaction of the Centenary Campers as they left the field at Centenary Salute and, on The Anchor Boys Day at Erskine, a photo of two boys, one stroking a Boa Constrictor and the other shying away in horror.

"This celebration is not only about looking back in time but also an opportunity to recharge the inspiration that is young people after the Covid years.

"Indeed, we hear there are 25 young men who have completed their Queen's Badge Course and will be put forward for The Brigade’s highest award later this year.

"With companies working throughout Renfrewshire, from Anchor Boys through to Queen’s Men, The Boys' Brigade has much to celebrate."
