WOMEN are invited to take part in a new evening walk being launched at the RSPB nature reserve in Lochwinnoch this month.

The Women Only Wildlife Wander session will take place on Wednesday, May 24, running from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

Online booking is essential for the event, which costs £12 for non-members plus a 50p booking fee.

A spokesperson said: "Here at RSPB Lochwinnoch, we are keen to create an environment that is comfortable for all to visit and at any time.

"With this in mind, we have created this evening walk for women which will be led by female staff and volunteers who will share their knowledge and enthusiasm for nature.

"You will be led around the reserve as a group, finishing up in our visitor centre where you will have some time to make use of our scopes and enjoy a hot beverage and biscuits as part of the fee."

Another event being held at the nature reserve this month is a workshop to introduce beginners and experienced birders alike to the delights of birdsong.

The Birding & Birdsong for Beginners session will take place on Sunday, May 14, between 10am and 12:30pm.

Attendees can learn more about common birds and their song and pick up tips and advice on wildlife watching techniques.

Those who take part will also be given advice on how to use binoculars and scopes and how to choose printed resources to help you confidently identify wildlife.

Entry for this event also costs £12 for non-members plus a 50p booking fee.

A number of self-led activities are also on offer at the nature reserve, such as a Safari Challenge where kids can track down all the species in their safari hunter's guidebook.

A 'Happy Families' activity also encourages participants to find some of the different types of wildlife families that call Lochwinnoch home.

Both activities, which cost £3 plus entry fees, can be undertaken anytime during May and June between the hours of 10am and 4pm.
