The Armed Forces Day flag will be raised outside Renfrewshire House this Friday (June 16) to show support for serving troops, service families, veterans and cadets.

The service at 11am outside Renfrewshire House is being held ahead of Armed Forces Day, which takes place on Sunday, June 24.

The flag will be raised by David Gavin, a former Royal Marine, with refreshments available shortly after in Paisley Abbey.

It will fly outside Renfrewshire House for seven days.

Renfrewshire’s Provost Lorraine Cameron told the Gazette: “Showing support for the armed forces provides a much-valued morale boost for the troops and their families and it’s important we continue to highlight how much we appreciate their contributions to our country.

“Here in Renfrewshire we mark Armed Forces Day a week ahead of the national event to allow our local military community to attend events both locally and nationally.

“I have been honoured to speak with many ex-servicemen and women over the years who have shared their stories and memories with me and I would encourage as many people as possible to come along to the service and join me in showing support for our Armed Forces and their families.”
