'Overwhelmed by the kindness': Volunteers spruce up Paisley nursery

The good deed for Rainbow Nursery was done by the energy company workers who are based in Paisley, as part of SGN’s Community Action Programme (CAP).

This scheme gives employees one day of company time each year to volunteer and help an organisation or charity of their choice.

SGN is an energy company that manages the network which distributes natural and green gas to around six million homes and businesses across Scotland and southern England.

Faye Hyslop, SGN’s environment manager, said: “I've wanted to help update the outside of the nursery for a while.

"It’s local to me and I walk past it every day, so it was great to finally be able to help with the Paisley team. The nursery seemed really happy with what we achieved which is the main thing.”

While helping transform the nursery, the volunteers weeded the garden, painted the fence and made over a rusty gate that needed sanding and sprucing up.

Rainbow Nursery is part of the Childcare First group, a registered charity run by a board of volunteers and operates on a not-for-profit basis.

Alan Cunningham, Rainbow Nursery’s manager, said: “We are overwhelmed by the kindness of the team to give up their time to help out the nursery.

“We are a charity and everything we do is for the benefit of the children, so it’s amazing when we receive support from others in doing this. We’re so grateful for the work they’ve done in the garden, it’s looking fantastic.”

The charity supports social inclusion and economic agendas of national and local governments, and are dedicated to providing affordable high-quality childcare and learning for all families in the local area.
