A variety of fun activities are on offer at the RSPB nature reserve in Lochwinnoch during August and September.

Budding photographers can take part in beginners workshops that will take place on Sunday, August 13 and Sunday, September 17.

Online booking is essential for both events, which run from 1pm to 4.30pm and cost £30 for non-members plus a 75p booking fee.

A spokesperson said: "Learn how to take great outdoors and wildlife photographs with your own camera, then see your results on screen.

"The workshop will be led by amateur photographer Ken Ramsay who has been photographing wildlife in Scotland for the last 10 years and is aimed at those using a DSLR or Mirrorless camera.

"This will be an excellent opportunity for beginners to learn the basics.

"Advice, encouragement and ideas will be freely given!"

Another event being held at the nature reserve is a Women Only Wildlife Wander session, which will take place on Sunday, September 7, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

This evening walk for women will be led by female staff and volunteers who will share their knowledge and enthusiasm for nature.

Participants will be led around the reserve as a group, finishing up in our visitor centre where they will have some time to make use of our scopes and enjoy a hot beverage and biscuits.

Entry for this event costs £12 for non-members plus a 75p booking fee.

On Friday, Saturday, 29, nature lovers are invited to learn about the fascinating world of bats.

Visitors will be able to use hand-held bat detectors and listen for echo-location calls as they find out more about the winged creatures.

The guided bat walk, which runs from 7pm to 8.30pm, costs £7 for adults and £5 for children plus a 75p booking fee.

A number of self-led activities are also on offer at the nature reserve, such as a Dragon Hunt during the month of August.

Kids can track down the hidden mystical creatures whilst learning all about dragonflies and damselflies.

Throughout the year, families can hire a Young Explorer backpack for the day, which contains a pair of binoculars, a minibeast viewing pot, a magnifying glass and a free wildlife spotting sheet.

Both activities, which cost £3 plus entry fees, can be undertaken between the hours of 9.30am and 4pm.
