Aspiring chefs from Renfrewshire are hoping to cook up a storm as they take part in an intensive six-week training programme.

A total of 14 local school leavers are benefitting from innovative sessions and inspiring masterclasses organised by hospitality trainers Hub International.

The Renfrewshire Hospitality and Tourism Training Academy allows participants to learn from local industry experts, such as world-class Scottish bartender Ally Kelsey.

Award-winning chef Graeme Cheevers has been a vital support to the trainees, who enjoyed visiting his Michelin star restaurant Unalome in Glasgow's West End.

The cook, who was born in Paisley and raised in Erskine, told The Gazette: ''I started at the bottom of the industry, making breakfast rolls and helping out in a kitchen, I wasn't very academic.

"I always enjoyed hands-on jobs, working hard and being the best I could be, and achieving the Michelin Star for me represents that.

"I am really proud to be able to be a part of this journey for local youngsters and give back, supporting young people in the same place I grew up.

"What Hub International is offering gives school leavers a great experience to get skills in all different sectors, which will allow them to choose a path that's right for them.

"Hospitality gives us the skills and confidence to work anywhere, to enjoy world wide travel, different cultures and ultimately will always be work as there is such high demand for well trained people in our sector."

"Our passion is to nurture the next generation of hospitality professionals, elevating their skills while igniting their passion for the industry.

"The array of experiences and opportunities awaiting our trainees is truly unparalleled.

"I hope employers in the area really get behind the initiative so we can continue to support more young people to gain skills and employment."
