History buffs are being invited to step back in time and learn some interesting facts about the first African-American thought to have arrived in Paisley.

The unique history tour will take place in the west end of the town, in locations such as Castle Street, Maxwellton Street and Well Street, on Saturday, October 21.

Shopmobility Paisley and District has teamed up with Paisley Darkside Historical Walking Tours to organise the event, which is being funded by InRen (Integration Network Renfrewshire) and the National Lottery Community Fund.

The main focus of the tour will be on Peter Burnett, also known as 'Black Peter,' with the event to explore different chapters of his life.

This will include his time as a house boy to military commanders, his life on a pirate ship and his move to Edinburgh when the weaving trade collapsed, as well as his unfortunate prison experience, with the event ending with a visit to his resting place.

Karen Miller, office manager of Shopmobility Paisley and District, said: "This tour is free, but you must book a place in advance by emailing shopmobilitypaisley2019@outlook.com.

"This tour about the life of Peter Burnett is part of Black History Month, which runs for the whole of October.

"Free wheelchair and mobility scooter hire is available for anyone needing them for this tour.

"The tour will start at 1pm outside Tannahill's Cottage and will conclude at 2pm at the Loud ‘n’ Proud Music Studio, in William Street, where all attendees of the tour will be invited into this venue for a light lunch and refreshments and how the opportunity to see the published video of Peter Burnett.

"Places are limited so it is essential to book your place as soon as possible."
