Renfrewshire South MSP Tom Arthur has welcomed funding that aims to support local people in the care system.

Renfrewshire Council is one of 42 organisations across Scotland to benefit from the second round of the Scottish Government's Promise Partnership Fund.

Mr Arthur, of the SNP, told The Gazette: "Renfrewshire Council provides invaluable support to children and young people in our care system, and this Care Experienced Week, I welcome the announcement that it will receive part of £4million of funding from the Scottish Government to help it continue this life-changing work.

"Children and young people in care should always feel loved and respected, and this funding will help organisations to build supportive workforces and school structures to ensure young people can thrive in a safe environment, and enhance youth justice and rights to stop the criminalisation of children and young people with care experience.

"The Promise Partnership Fund underlines our commitment to driving forward the much-needed transformational change to keep Scotland the best place in the world to grow up, and to ensure that all children in Renfrewshire South have the opportunity to reach their full potential."
