A MAN has been charged with murder and attempted robbery following the death of a Renfrew man.

We previously reported that officers raced to Renfield Street in the town at around 3am on Monday, October 30, after receiving a report of an injured man, who was later named Alastair Campbell.

After being found seriously injured in the common close of nearby flats, the 52-year-old tragically died.

Now, 47-year-old James Cook has appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court today charged with the murder and attempted robbery following the incident.

Cook of no fixed address made no plea or declaration.

He has been remanded in custody and was committed for further examination.
