A popular Renfrewshire café has caused a stir by winning a national honour for a second year in a row.

Spoons Coffee House, in Causeyside Street, Paisley, has been named Best Coffee Shop at the annual Scotlands Business Awards.

We previously reported how the café was voted the highest-scoring coffee shop in Renfrewshire in May and won the same title for Scotland at last year’s finals.

James Carmichael, owner of Spoons Coffee House, said the team were “really shocked” about their latest achievement.

He told The Gazette: “We were surprised, as there were quite a few good contenders in this year’s category.

“For us to win the award in the grand final two years in a row made it a really good night.

“I think we get great support from the local community because we provide good, honest food and great coffee.”

Scotlands Business Awards sees members of the public vote for the finalists before they are visited by mystery shoppers.

James said: "When the regulars come in, I've been getting them to hold the award and take a picture with it underneath the Spoons sign, and we're going to make a collage of all the pictures.

"If it wasn't for them, we wouldn't be where we are, as they are the people who vote for us and support us every day.

“I would like to thank the people of Paisley, as well as the staff and my wife, who works for us as well.”

Recently, the café has been engaging with the local community, such as inviting local nursery kids to make their own miniature pizzas.

James added: "We’ve had more kids now coming over with their parents to get pictures in Spoons, so I think it’s important to keep doing stuff like this in the community, as it helps us and it helps give community somewhere to go.

"This latest award has pumped the staff up a little bit as well, especially as it has been non-stop here recently.

"All of the staff were able to come along to the awards ceremony this time, which made it a bit more exciting for them as well."
