Members of a popular theatre group are hoping their latest Christmas panto will reach new heights of success.

Those who go along to see Johnstone Phoenix Theatre Group's production of Jack and the Beanstalk will be able to enjoy lots of singing and dancing, as well as audience participation.

Curtain goes up at Johnstone Town Hall on Saturday, November 25, with the panto embarking on a week-long run following many rehearsals at local community hub Station Seven.

Jennifer Scott, who is playing the character Fairy Rainbow, said the cast and production team have been working hard since September to put together their take on the classic tale.

She told The Gazette: "The rehearsals are going fantastic and very fast, it feels like they've gone by in the blink of an eye.

“All the cast and production team are working so hard and everyone is just really excited to start the first show.

“That hall at Station Seven has been amazing, it has given us a place to rehearse together as a family.”

Last year, Johnstone Phoenix Theatre Group staged its first panto since the start of the Covid pandemic with its production of Cinderella.

Jennifer said: “We came back with a traditional panto, so we wanted to do something that was a bit different this year, along the storyline of a principal boy rather than your typical fairy princess.

“Our director Carol has put her spin on things for this year’s show, so it’s got a few modern-day twists.

“Our musical director and choreographer have worked together to come up with an upbeat and exciting song list.”

Performances take place at 7.30pm each night from Saturday, November 25, until Saturday, December 2.

There will also be 2pm matinee shows on both Saturdays.

Those interested in attending are urged to book their place as soon as possible, as a limited number of tickets are now available.

Jennifer added: “There's a wee bit for everyone in this panto, no matter what age you are.

“It gives you time away from your own life through the magic of theatre and helps you forget about the world.”
