A new programme will be launched to inspire secondary school students in Renfrewshire to discover their innovative side.

The 'STEM into Innovation: Pioneers of Progress' programme, launched by TechFest, a STEM charity, comes following the Scottish Government's national innovation strategy, which aims to place Scotland among the world's leading small innovative nations.

The Gazette: The programme is structured as a virtual programme to widen its reach to schools across Scotland

Kicking off this month for the first time, the programme wants to instil design-related skills and knowledge in pupils, cultivating a passion for innovation.

It is structured as a virtual programme to widen its reach to schools across Scotland.

Among the collaborators are Jenny Brown, former lead history curator at Aberdeen City Council, industry and school engagement leaders Sabaht Bashir, Blair Wilson, and Edward Pollock, the TechX acceleration manager at the Net Zero Centre.

Yvonne Whitker, NCR foundation director, said: "Research shows increased participation in STEM activities improves reading ability, writing fluency and problem solving skills. We hope participation in these types of programs will ignite young peoples’ interest in pursuing technology career paths in future.”
