A Renfrewshire hospice is in search of teams to join its first-ever Dragon Boat race at Castle Semple Loch.

ACCORD Hospice is looking for people to join in the fun in Lochwinnoch on Saturday, July 13, as they look to raise money for their Paisley site.

Dragon Boat Racing, with roots tracing back to ancient China, presents companies, clubs, and organisations a team-building opportunity while raising funds for the patients and families in Accord's care.

David McFadden, fundraising and communications manager at ACCORD Hospice, said: "We are absolutely delighted to be hosting this highly popular event right here in Renfrewshire.

The Gazette: Fancy dress rowers

"Whether you've got sea legs or are a complete novice, we hope to see you and your team on the beautiful loch at Castle Semple raising money for ACCORD.

"As a free service, we rely on your efforts to continue to provide vital end-of-life care for people in our community."

Dragon Boat Racing involves competing in large, ornately-decorated canoe-like vessels.

Teams of 10 can enter the race without needing any prior experience, as comprehensive training will be conducted on the day of the event.

Participants are encouraged to enter the race in fancy dress, with an award promised for the best-dressed team.

Each boat’s registration fee is £200, or £20 per person.

Each crew member is encouraged to raise at least £100, or £1,000 per boat.
