A 37-year-old man was rushed to hospital yesterday following a disturbance in Paisley. 

According to a report on social media, the man was seen "bleeding heavily from his head/ear area" following the incident. 

The incident led to the closure of the Neilston Road branch of the Co-op for the remainder of the day.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of a disturbance at a premises on Neilston Road, Paisley, around 2.50pm on Wednesday, May 8.

“Officers attended and a 37-year-old man was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.

“A 39-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident. He is due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court on Thursday, May 9, 2024.”

A spokesperson for the Co-op added: "There was an altercation between two members of the public who appeared to be known to each another.

"The store re-opened this morning as usual to serve and support the community."
