Works on a Paisley roundabout – which will allow large vehicles with abnormal loads to pass – are set to be carried out later this month.
A contractor is scheduled to begin the project at the roundabout next to St Peter’s on Glenburn Road and Braehead Road on Monday, August 19, with the job lasting two weeks.
It’s understood the road will remain open and traffic will be managed through a combination of lane closures and temporary signals.
The works, which are being paid for by an abnormal load haulage company, intend to create a refurbished roundabout with elements that can be temporarily removed and replaced when required.
Councillor Eddie Devine, who represents Paisley Southeast, said: “It’s good to hear these works will take place soon and shouldn’t take too long.
“I think it makes sense to have a system where there are parts at the roundabout that can be lifted out and the vehicles with abnormal loads can then drive through.
“I’m quite happy with the plans and also that it won’t cost the council money because it’s being paid for by the company that needs it done.
“Hopefully it will save any future disruption with road closures or whatever because these vehicles will need to get up to Neilston substation in Gleniffer Road.”
The roundabout is expected to remain conventional in design, with full height road kerbs and four blue arrow signs.
Meanwhile, the decorative street light which is located in the centre will be retained as part of the process.
Welcoming the works, Councillor Devine added: “The roundabout in its current condition is done so this will be an upgrade on what we have.”
