A private jet has made an emergency landing at Glasgow Airport.

The NetJets Bombardier Global 6000 N142QS was travelling from Seattle to Rome on Tuesday morning when it issued a Squawk 7700 signal.

This code is used to communicate on-flight emergencies and, depending on the nature and severity of the situation, crews may conduct checks before formally declaring an emergency.

Map footage captured on FlightRadar24 shows the aircraft travelling over Scotland heading towards Europe before turning around over Kilbirnie and landing at Glasgow Airport.

NetJets Inc. is an American private jets company.

Glasgow Airport confirmed that the aircraft had landed safely.

The nature of the emergency is not known, but we have contacted NetJets for comment.
