Renfrew Bowling Club is set to mark the appointment of its first female president.

Jessie McCartney will be honoured at an event on Saturday, April 5, as the group hosts its annual open day to launch the 2025 season.

The event starts at 2pm and allows for new and experienced bowlers to visit the club and enjoy meeting members and guests.

A statement read: "Jessie McCartney's historic appointment as the club's first-ever Lady President since the club opening in 1852.

"This is an achievement as ladies only became members in 2018.

"This appointment is well-deserved recognition for all that Jessie has contributed to the club over many in various capacities, including first lady chairperson, first lady on the club committee, and past club treasurer.

"Jessie constantly works hard in the club doing general admin duties, sorting catering, raffles, volunteering behind the bar and cleaning when required and is the go-to person when people need help at the Club.

"She also helps with the bingo and fish supper nights, quiz nights and charity funding."
