Renfrew Bowling Club is set to celebrate a historic milestone this Saturday.

The club's open day, heralding the start of the 2025 bowling season, will pay tribute to Jessie McCartney, the first-ever lady president since the club's inception in 1852.

Mrs McCartney's appointment is particularly notable as women only gained membership in 2018.

Her recognition as president acknowledges her numerous contributions to the club, including her roles as the first lady chairperson, club committee member, and a past treasurer.

Mrs McCartney has been instrumental in various club activities, from administrative tasks and catering to organising raffles and volunteering behind the bar.

She is also a key figure in the club's bingo, fish supper, and quiz nights, as well as charity fundraising efforts.

The Open Day, commencing at 2pm with the opening of the green, presents a perfect chance for both novice and seasoned bowlers to engage with club members and guests.

The event will culminate at 8.30pm with a performance by Angela Duncan, a club favourite and two-time winner of the People’s Choice Business Award Entertainer Act.

With no designated seating plan, attendees are encouraged to arrive early.

For further details about the Open Day or membership options, interested parties can reach out to secretary Alex McCartney at RenfrewBCsecretary@hotmail.com.
