A Paisley woman has been named the new education officer at a rainforest-themed attraction.

Courtney Whiteman is taking up the role at Amazonia, a temperature-controlled tropical indoor attraction, based on South America's Amazon rainforest.

She has a first-class honours degree in applied bioscience and zoology and is passionate about wildlife conservation.

In her new role, she will lead handling sessions and educational presentations for schools, as well as visit interested groups in the community.

Amanda Gott, Amazonia's zoologist and manager, said: "We look after many endangered species and there's so much to see and learn about all our different species from our Goeldi's monkeys to our bumblebee dart frogs.

"Courtney will be a great addition to the team supporting all our learning by developing Amazonia's educational commitment with schools, universities, and groups, as well as our sustainability work."

Home to more than 60 different animal species and exotic plants, Amazonia offers visitors a unique opportunity to engage with wildlife in a controlled rainforest environment.

Highlights include daily handling sessions, snake feeding tours, and the chance for young visitors to experience what is like to be a keeper for the day.

It is open daily from 10am until 5pm, with dedicated ASN sessions every Saturday and Sunday from 10am until 11am.
