A busy route in Renfrew is to remain closed for six months.

Arkleston Road will stay shut after a lorry smashed into a bridge last Wednesday.

The crash caused major delays on the M8 westbound before the carriageway reopened at 7pm.

Transport Scotland have indicated a road closure is required for six months.

Councillor Jim Patterson provided an update on social media.

Writing on Facebook, he said: "I have been informed by Renfrew Council Roads Department that Transport Scotland who are responsible for the repair of the Arkleston Bridge have indicated they require a road closure for six months.

"Clearly this is not an acceptable length of time for this road to be closed and whilst I appreciate there will be complex logistics involved with managing this repair, I will be contacting Transport Scotland to ask that work progresses as quickly as possible to ensure this road/bridge is opened again as soon as possible."
