Two dogs have died after being 'left in a car' in Renfrewshire amid the hot weather.

Police said two people, a 53-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman, have been reported to the Procurator Fiscal following the death of their two dogs in a motor in Linwood, near Paisley.

On Thursday, July 10, at around 1.05pm, cops were called by a concerned member of the public who spotted the pooches in the vehicle, which were a Maltese and an Alsatian Lurcher Cross.

The member of the public believed they were in 'distress due to the hot weather'.

Officers then gained access to the vehicle and took the animals to a local vet; however, both were found to be dead on arrival.

Following the incident, cops have urged dog owners to follow the SSPCA guidance on dog care in the summer.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Two people have been reported to the PF after the death of two dogs in a car in Linwood, Paisley. Yesterday, the dogs were spotted distressed in a car due to the hot weather and later died."
