An MSP has welcomed a financial lifeline that is helping families stay by their children’s side during hospital treatment.

Tom Arthur, MSP for Renfrewshire South, has praised the latest figures from the Scottish Government’s Young Patients Family Fund, which show that 7356 families benefited from the scheme in the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde area last year.

The fund supports parents and carers of hospitalised children under 18 by covering travel and food expenses during their stay.

Last year, the total value of support provided in the health board area was £1,625,357.

“This funding helps parents visit their children in hospital – supporting families in their time of need.

“Alongside the Baby Box, 1140 hours of free childcare, and scrapping the two-child cap, schemes like the Young Patients Family Fund help to ensure Scotland is the best place in the UK to raise a family.”
